COMMODORE G PRAKASH, NAU SENA MEDAL, (RETIRED)

35 years of service with the Indian Navy and recipient of the prestigious Presidential Award Nao Sena Medal for sustained meritorious service, on 26 January 2018.

Former Officer of the Executive Branch, specialised in Air Warfare and Anti-submarine Warfare.

Former Commanding Officer of three warships and three large Bases, including INS Venduruthy, the largest Base of the Indian Navy.

Has led extensive relief operations in Sri Lanka after the tsunami of 2005, as the Captain of INS Taragiri. Has travelled extensively abroad and sailed a large part of the

 world’s oceans.

Former Director of the Maritime Warfare Centre at Kochi.

MSc (Defence Studies) from Chennai University and MPhil (Strategic Studies) from Mumbai University. Presently adjunct faculty at Naval War College, Goa and guide for MPhil students of Mumbai University through the Naval War College.

Being passionate about academics, have been lecturing at the national level on several topics for over 20 years. Have lectured at the National Defence College, New Delhi, highest military institution in India, the Navy/ Air Force War Colleges, The College of Defence management, Secunderabad, think tanks like CAPS, CENJOWS, the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and many other military/ government audiences.

Over 20 years of experience in keynote speeches/ lectures to corporate bodies, journalists, bureaucrats, universities, colleges, schools on a variety of topics

Mentor for selected students of Government Colleges in Kerala, with the Walk With a Scholar scheme for several years.

Salient topics of academic interest are Strategic Affairs, Management, Societal Studies, International Relations, World History, Military History, Maritime History, Maritime Strategy, Military Affairs, Leadership, Motivation & Career Guidance.

Presently a Distinguished Senior Fellow at Defence Studies and Research (DRaS), a

 Kochi based think-tank on Military Affairs.

Very active in the areas of coaching, training, mentoring and grooming.

Regular contributor to various newspapers and media platforms on strategic/ military affairs. Has edited several joint service, naval and civil publications. Have also published several short stories.
